Black & White Bedroom Set
Hi, I’m back with a bedroom set transformation. Today, it’s all about OPPOSITES! I am attracted to contrasts when it comes to decor. There is just something about a white painted room with touches of black furniture to ground everything. One of my favourite looks…like “Ebony and Ivory”…perfect harmony! That was my inspiration to paint this antique bedroom set that dates from the late 1940’s.
The dressers have beautiful carved wood handles which I wanted to highlight with lots of chipping paint. To get the “chippy” effect, it is best to wet-distress your furniture as soon as the paint dries. A wet pot-scrubber/sponge works well for this.
Here is a close-up.
To get the contrasting look, I painted the dressers in “Simplicity” and the bed in “Liquorice”. I was actually surprised that the pure white paint only required two coats. Often white paints can be very transparent and usually need multiple more coats. After painting and distressing, all the pieces were sealed with Clear Wax.
I applied the same distressing technique on the bed.
When it comes to dressers with attached swivel mirrors, I personally prefer to remove the mirror from the dresser and just hang the framed mirror separately. To me it’s just a fresher updated look. How do you feel? Leave mirrors attached, or not?
For now it’s just sitting and leaning on some books while it finds a permanent place.
The set also had an end table.
Below is the “Before” picture of just the end table, but it will give you an idea of what the bedroom set looked like before it got its makeover. Not very pretty with its two-toned stain, but nothing that a little bit of Country Chic Paint can’t change.
Back soon.
