Bye-Bye Radio Cabinet, Hello Media Console!
Carrie from Thirty Eighth Street used Liquorice and Belt Buckle metallic cream to take this media console to a whole new dramatic level!
Hi Country Chic Paint Friends! It's Carrie from Thirty Eighth Street back to show you just how easy it is to turn a vintage thrift store find into an elegant one-of-a kind piece. For this transformation, it's all about the details!
If you saw this old cabinet at your local second hand store would you have purchased it or just kept on walking?
What if you opened up the cabinet doors and discovered a pair of giant speakers covered in this lovely vintage tapestry? Ick! Would you have passed them by or would all of those yummy details over ridden what you imagined as a little bit of work? I hope you said the latter because with a simple screwdriver, a staple remover and some scissors, those speakers were a cinch to remove!
With all of that new found space, this old record cabinet was transformed into a beautiful and functional media console complete with shelves and storage for all of our electronic components. Before we started painting, we gave this piece a good vacuum and dusting. Then, we applied two coats of Country Chic Paint in Liquorice. To accentuate all of the details, we dry brushed small amounts of Country Chic Paint's Metallic Cream in Belt Buckle all over the cabinet but especially over the raised details. You don't need very much... A little bit goes a long way!
The result? A swoon worthy media console that's part rustic and part glam!
Do you see how the metallic cream gave this piece some added depth and dimension?
It would cost hundreds of dollars to buy a brand new media console. Refinishing furniture yourself puts that money right back into your pocket! Save yourself some money by refinishing a thrift find yourself. The bonus!? They just don't make furniture like they used to! Look for a quality piece, then decide how YOU want it finished.
Happy thrifting everyone!

Hi! I’m Carrie from sunny Southern Arizona and blogger at Thirty Eighth Street. I live in a house full of rumble tumble boys and paint is my nail polish. I love the process of repurposing, reusing and recycling unloved furniture and turning them into show stopper pieces. I’m a firm believer that it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to decorate a home. My mission is to demonstrate this, one piece at a time!
