  Hi Friends! If you've never painted furniture before but want to give it a go, painting a nightstand is the perfect sized project for a beginner! I acquired this orangey-brown bedside table as part of a larger bedroom set at an estate sale. I paid $100 for the entire set. The nightstand was in decent shape with normal signs of normal wear and tear.... except for the top. THAT was a little bit of a mess! After a light sanding it was ready for some paint! For this project I used Country Chic Paint in Liquorice and an Oval Paint Brush. This is one of my very favorite paint brushes to use! I applied the first coat with uneven coverage so that the original wood grain would peak through. Then, after it was dry I applied a second coat to deepen the color and add contrast. Dry brushing in specific areas and painting heavier in other areas to create a weathered worn look. This is my very favorite way to distress a piece of furniture naturally. Once my second layer was dry, I took an old cut up T-shirt and dipped it into water and rubbed it lightly back and forth over the edges and raised details to remove some of the paint. Wet distressing is a quick and easy way to distress a piece without having the mess of sandpaper residue. Finally, I finished up the piece with a little bit of blending and sealed it with Clear Coat.
