With just a few products and four simple steps, Natalie was able to transform this piece into a gorgeous, weathered wood dresser that would be right at home in any beach cottage.
Step 1) Strip the old stain off.
Step 2) Use a clear top coat to seal the wood. This step just helps to make sure the wood won't soak up all the paint too easily.
Step 3) Add a wash of color. You can choose any color you like for this, but in this case Natalie chose the color, Sunday Tea.
Mix about 1.5 parts water with 1 part paint, then wipe the paint on with a painting sponge. Work in small areas at a time, and use a clean, damp rag to wipe away the excess paint as you go. Work in the direction of the wood grain for best results!
Step 4) Last but not least, seal your work with wax, hemp oil, or a clear top coat. The choice is up to you!

Hello! My name is Natalie, and I am the owner and creative mind behind A Ray of Sunlight. I have always loved anything to do with crafts, so it only seemed right when I started my career in painting and refinishing furniture. Growing up my parents taught me how to create, imagine the possibilities and transform things with a bit of work and paint. I wanted a career that would enable me stay home with my baby girl, and furniture does just that. Thank you for following along on my adventures of up-cycling and bringing light back to old outdated pieces.
