Simplicity Dresser Makeover
Krista from The Happy Housie is back with another beautiful transformation for their master bedroom! She refinished this dresser with Simplicity and Clear Wax for a clean, fresh look.
Hello everyone! It is Krista from The Happy Housie back again today to share a beautiful makeover that I recently did on an old dresser for our Master Bedroom.
We have had this solid piece in our room for a few years... it originally started out as a dark brown high gloss 80's looking piece, and it's first transformation several years ago was into a black dresser with a wooden top.
But recently I grew tired of the dark color in our bedroom and decided to revamp it with some Country Chic in Simplicity. I started by thoroughly cleaning the whole piece...
Then I gave it all a coat of primer because I had originally used an oil-based black paint for the previous transformation.
Once the primer was dry, I gave the dresser two coats of Simplicity and let it dry thoroughly.
A couple of days later, I went back in with my little palm sander. I could have sanded by hand, but I really wanted to take a fair bit of the white off and expose both some of the black and some of the original wood color underneath. The palm sanded was a really efficient way to do this. Because this dresser has so many lines I was able to create a beautifully distressed look and give the white paint a great deal of dimension using the palm sander.
I wiped all the sanding dust off, and then gave it a coat of Clear Wax all over using my beloved wax brush.
After letting it dry briefly I went back and buffed the wax with a clean lint-free rag... it left such a beautiful sheen over both the Simplicity paint and the distressed edges.
Done!
I absolutely love how it turned out... what do you think?
Thanks for reading. And remember, my housie friends, HOME isn't built in a day. Enjoy the journey.
