How to Give a Pumpkin a Whitewashed, Vintage Look

How to Give a Pumpkin a Whitewashed, Vintage Look

Looking for an easy way to give your fall decor a little makeover? With a coat of Country Chic Paint and a touch of white wax, you can transform an ordinary pumpkin into a beautiful, vintage-inspired accent for your home.

For this project, we used Persimmon for a warm, autumn-inspired base, then finished with white wax to create a soft, weathered look. It's a simple way to add a little character to your seasonal decor!

What You'll Need

How to Create the Look

Step 1: Prepare Your Pumpkin

Make sure your pumpkin is clean and dry before you begin. If you're using a faux pumpkin, remove any dust or residue so the paint can adhere properly. Sometimes it's worth doing a scratch test to be sure the paint will adhere.

Step 2: Paint with Persimmon

Apply a coat of Country Chic Paint in Persimmon, making sure to cover the pumpkin evenly and work around its curves and grooves. Allow the paint to dry completely, adding another coat if needed for your desired coverage.

Persimmon brings a lovely warmth to this project, making it perfect for fall decorating. It doesn't have to be orange! Pick from all 54 of our colors!

Step 3: Add White Wax

Once the paint is completely dry, it's time to add the finishing touch! Apply a small amount of Country Chic Paint White Wax using a brush or soft cloth. Work it into the grooves and across the raised areas of the pumpkin to create a softly aged, whitewashed effect.

You can adjust the look as you go. Apply a little more wax for a lighter, more muted finish, or leave more of the Persimmon showing through for a richer contrast.

Step 4: Let It Dry and Style

Allow the wax to dry according to the product instructions. Once finished, your pumpkin is ready to display!

Decorate for Fall

Your finished pumpkin is a lovely addition to a fall centerpiece, a seasonal mantel, or an entryway display. Try pairing it with dried flowers, natural greenery, wood accents, or other pumpkins in complementary colors for a collected, vintage-inspired look.

The best part? You can experiment with different paint colors and wax finishes to create a pumpkin that suits your style.
