How to Use Hemp Oil to Seal Your Furniture

How to Use Hemp Oil to Seal Your Furniture

Watch this video tutorial to learn how to seal your painted or raw wood furniture with our all-natural Hemp Oil!

Hemp Oil is an environmentally-friendly, 100% natural furniture finish. It is completely free of solvents or other chemical additives. You can use it on raw wood, furniture pieces painted with Country Chic Paint, on leather, or even on wooden floors.

Step 1) Prep your surface

Before you begin, make sure your surface is clean and dust free. If you're applying Hemp Oil over top of a piece painted with Country Chic Paint, make sure you give the paint about 12 hours to dry before you begin.

Step 2) Apply a coat of Hemp Oil

Don't be alarmed by the color! Hemp Oil is a deep green color, but the color will vary a bit between harvests. When first applied, Hemp Oil will deepen the color of your finish but it will slowly lighten over time as the oil soaks in and cures.

You can use a lint-free rag, or a paintbrush to apply Hemp Oil, but our personal preference is a painting sponge. You don't need much! Just wipe one thin coat over the surface and let it soak into the finish for 12 hours.

Step 3) Buff it dry!

Once the Hemp Oil has been left to dry for 12 hours, you can use a dry, lint-free rag to buff away the excess. If you'd like to add more sheen, keep buffing to add a bit more luster to the finish.

For higher traffic pieces like coffee table tops, we recommend adding a second or third coat for optimal durability. Hemp Oil will slowly wear away over time so it's best to re-apply every 2-3 years as needed.

Since Hemp Oil is an all-natural product with no chemical additives, it can take about four weeks to fully cure. You can of course start using your paint almost right away, but be mindful of the finish and use it gently for the first week.

The effect

Here you can see the immediate difference one coat of Hemp Oil makes over a painted surface or raw wood. Keep in mind that the color will lighten slowly over time.
